Been playing avp2 since 2001, id have to admit im still rather to attached to this shooter and knowing the master server got taken down = THE MOST GUTTING NEWS IVE READ IN THE NET.

Thanks to all who have helped make avp2 still playable, but i still got some concerns :-

:- When avp3 is released does the master server for avp2 get shudown?

:- Will updates and new patches still be released for those who wont be making the move to avp3?

:- Will you need a new group of donators for maintenance etc?

I realise this thread maybe premature but due to my old pc id still be on avp2 for some time.

Peace.

Herr said that they will support it as long as there is interest for the game. He actually mentioned years in one occasion. And donations are always needed.

I think this pretty much covers it. 8-)

Lol, I think Herr must've been on the sauce when he said that.

Nice if he can manage it, but I don't think people should expect too much, not unless they really reach for their wallets.

I hope it stays up. At least for a while more. Jeff doesn't seem to keen on keeping it up though.

To be honest, I'm not that interested in the new AvP. I haven't seen anything that exciting about other than better graphics. We don't even know if the new AvP will have a toolkit released to mod the game.

Plus, I won't make the jump to the new AvP game until I finish any mods I have yet to finish. It would be nice to play online with new mod content, but its a matter of money more than anything.

What are the monthly costs of running the AvP2 master server?

Well, the main issue here is bandwidth, followed, somehow in the same category, by server costs. Jeff can add more to this, so far he's the only one that sees the bills. So yes, donations do help.

We'll be experimenting with other solutions for the master server. One thing is for sure, we plan to keep the experience the same if not better, in terms of the in-game server list and how servers register to the master server.

Well I hope it stays up. AVp3 is just a run and gun game, with no strategy, and you cant even crouch, so map interaction is going to suck. (no ducking for cover, no ducking at all)

and the predators focus jump (its really like a hack) is unfair. Over all, I think people are going to be very disappointed with avp3

I bet a lot of people who try the new AVP will realize how much it sucks, and become nostalgic for AVP2.
